Master classes

Master Class in Singing & Conducting
The “Master Class in Conducting” will take place again in 2026. This master class, scheduled from June 29, 2026, to July 24, 2026, is open to a maximum of four participants, and will be led by Prof. Günther Albers. During the course, additional intensive sessions will be held with the maestros of the 2026 Bayreuth Festival
The following course objectives should be developed:
- Working with singers in solo rehearsals, ensemble rehearsals, and staged rehearsals
- Planning ensemble rehearsals
- Planning orchestra seating rehearsals and stage orchestra rehearsals
- Workshops with conductors of the Bayreuth Festival
- Developing orchestral corrections and feedback for singers
- Musical assistance, stage music, and chorus assistance
- Collaboration with the KBB, directors/assistant directors, and other artistic teams
In addition, course participants should regularly attend musical and stage rehearsals, orchestra rehearsals and choir hall.
Requirements for course participation:
- Studies (conducting or opera coaching) at a college or university for music, or completed university studies
- Candidates with good piano skills will be preferred

Inspired by the great success of the master classes led by KS Waltraud Meier, Markus Eiche, John Lundgren, Camilla Nylund, Elena Pankratova, KS Stephen Gould, Siegfried Jerusalem, and Petra Lang, Markus Eiche, KS Johan Botha, and Prof. Michelle Breedt, the Bayreuth Festival is committed to offering a master class for young singers as part of the 2026 Bayreuth Festival.
The instructor and director of the 2026 master class is Michael Nagy.
The vocal master class is aimed at music students nearing the end of their training and will take place from August 13 to 15, 2026, at the Markgräfin-Wilhelmine-Gymnasium in Bayreuth. The master class concludes on August 16 with a public final concert in the hall of Villa Wahnfried at 11:00 a.m.
Applications should include a complete résumé, a passport-sized photo, and three musical samples (preferably by Richard Wagner) as attachments, and must be submitted exclusively by email to projektassistenz@bf-medien.de.
The application deadline is June 30, 2026.
