Arrival / Parking situation

Arrival by car

Bayreuth is easily accessible by car and is located directly on the A9 Munich-Nuremberg-Bayreuth-Berlin highway. Coming from the north, leave the highway at the Bayreuth-Nord exit and then follow the signs towards the city center or the Festspielhaus. Coming from the south, use the Bayreuth-Süd exit and follow the signs directly to the Festspielhaus.

Street sign with the inscription Festspielhügel

Throughout the festival season, the festival approach roads via Siegfried-Wagner-Allee and Festspielhügel will be completely closed to traffic.

Access to the visitor car parks is only possible via:

Tristanstraße
Tannhäuserstraße (approaching from Grüner Baum)
An der Bürgerreuth

Visitors arriving via the A9 motorway (Bayreuth-Nord exit) are advised to leave the Riedinger Straße at Grüner Baum and follow the signs to the Festspielhaus.

As heavy traffic around the Festspielhaus is expected, guests are strongly advised to arrive well before the performance begins. Please have the €10.00 parking fee (flat rate per day for visitor car parks B and C) ready whenever possible. The fee is collected by parking attendants at the entrance to the car parks. Card payment is also available at Car Park B.

Car Park D offers four mobile charging points for electric vehicles.

Arrival by Taxi or Rental Car

A taxi rank will be available throughout the festival period in the Festspielpark on Tristanstraße.

A designated drop-off and pick-up area for hire cars and ride services will also be provided on Tristanstraße, south of Wotanstraße.

Taxis and hire cars transporting passengers with reduced mobility may continue via Tannhäuserstraße to the entrance of Car Park B.

In some areas, these restrictions will already be in effect from 18 July 2026 for the entire festival season.
