The Bayreuth Festival are performing Richard Wagner’s music drama “The Walküre” in Abu Dhabi.
The two guest performances will take place on January 30 and February 1 2019 and are part of the Abu Dhabi Classics concert series.
The performances, in the auditorium of the Emirates Palace Hotel, are concertante, but take place in front of a large screen on which a film specially made for the two guest performances will be shown. The film tells the story of the “Walküre” and accompanies the music through all three acts.
The musical direction of the two performances with around 100 musicians will be taken over by Markus Poschner, chief conductor of the Bruckner Orchestra Linz. Soloists of the Bayreuth Festival will sing, including Stephen Gould as Siegmund, Daniela Köhler as Sieglinde, Albert Dohmen as Hunding, Catherine Foster as Brünnhilde and Egils Silins as Wotan.
