The 2021 Virtual Festival Season

Die sogenannten Pausenmusiker zum ersten Mal auf den Balkon des Festspielhauses

Wagner himself once expressed the wish that all friends of his art should have free access to the performances in Bayreuth. Since not everyone can travel to Bayreuth in this second exceptional year, and this year’s festival performances are taking place with a limited audience capacity of 900 seats per performance, we would like to offer the international Wagner audience a digital festival experience.

Bayreuth Festival are once again collaborating with Deutsche Grammophon and will virtually present a total of ten different festival productions. Between July 26 and August 24, current and recently performed productions will be available to view at www.festspiele-online.de.

In addition to Frank Castorf’s 2013 production of Der Ring des Nibelungen, Katharina Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde (2015), Uwe Eric Laufenberg’s Parsifal (2016), Barrie Kosky’s Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (2017), Yuval Sharon’s Lohengrin (2018), and Tobias Kratzer’s Tannhäuser from 2019 will be available for free.
