Triple Award for Festival Artists

Die sogenannten Pausenmusiker zum ersten Mal auf den Balkon des Festspielhauses

Performance of the Year, Singer of the Year, and Costume Designer of the Year – triple honor for festival artists in the OPERNWELT Critics’ Survey.

Every year, the specialist magazine for music theater OPERNWELT conducts a survey among 50 opera and music critics from various countries to determine the best opera houses, productions, singers, directors, etc., of the past season. The winners of the total of 15 categories are awarded the titles “Opera House of the Year”, “Performance of the Year”, “Singer of the Year”, etc.
For the 2017/2018 season, “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg”, directed by Barrie Kosky, was chosen as the Performance of the Year. Not least for his outstanding interpretation of the Beckmesser character in this production, Johannes Martin Kränzle received the title Singer of the Year. Klaus Bruns, who created the costumes for “Meistersinger”, was named Costume Designer of the Year.
Among the nominees was also director Tobias Kratzer, who will stage the new production of “Tannhäuser” at the Bayreuth Festival in 2019.
Bayreuth Festival warmly congratulates all ensembles and individual artists, especially those working with them, on this honor!
