Giulia Fornasier
Giulia Fornasier works as a freelance dramaturg and is currently completing her master's degree in production dramaturgy for musical theater at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin. Previously, she studied philosophy in Rome (Bachelor) and at the Humboldt University in Berlin (Master). Since 2022 she participates in the artistic further education "Scuola Conia" at the Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio under the direction of Claudia Castellucci. She is a scholarship holder of the Deutsche Bank Foundation's support program "Akademie Musiktheater Heute" for the dramaturgy section.
In Berlin's independent scene, she works with the ensembles Opera Lab Berlin and Novoflot, among others, as well as with the Neuköllner Oper. She worked as dramaturge with director Andrea Moses at the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar as part of the festival for contemporary music theater "Passion: SPIEL" and premiered the chamber operas HAUT (composition: Lorenzo Troiani; staging: Andrea Tortosa Baquero) and UNSER VATER ǀ VATER UNSER (composition: Sehyung Kim; staging: Ana Cuéllar Velasco) at the Deutsche Oper Berlin at Neue Szenen V. She collaborates with contemporary composers including Evan Gardner, Juta Pranulytė, and Lorenzo Troiani. The chamber opera PHYSICAL EDUCATION, which she developed as a writer with composer Juta Pranulytė, premiered in 2023 as part of NEUE SZENEN VI at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. In September 2023, she will work with composer Tomasz Prasqual as part of the festival "Musiktheatertage Wien".
She is currently developing the opera cabaret LOCA with director Ana Cuéllar Velasco, featuring Spanish and Franco-Flemish Renaissance repertoire, and the new production of Salvatore Sciarrino's opera PERSEO E ANDROMEDA with director Nora Krahl.
At the Bayreuth Festival 2023 she is engaged as dramaturg for the children's opera PARSIFAL directed by Ruth Asralda.
