Elīna Garanča will take on the role of Kundry in the new production “Parsifal” for the opening of this year’s festival, as well as for the two performance dates on July 30 and August 12. “To know that Wagner made his first attempt at a festival hall in Latvia makes me incredibly proud and excited” says Elina Garanca, who will debut as the first Latvian singer on the Green Hill. Ekaterina Gubanova, already well-known and highly esteemed in Bayreuth, will take over the performances on August 15, 19, 23, and 27. Ekaterina Gubanova recently celebrated a triumphant role debut as Kundry in Vienna. Ekaterina Semenchuk has canceled her participation in the Bayreuth Festival for private reasons. Prof. Katharina Wagner is extremely grateful to both artists for stepping in at short notice.
