At the OPUS KLASSIK award ceremony on Sunday, October 13, 2019, the recording “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg” was honored in the Category “Audiovisual Music Production”. Bayreuth Festival are very pleased about this and extend their heartfelt congratulations to all contributors and participants!
The jury’s statement for the award ceremony reads: With “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg”, another milestone in the exclusive collaboration between Bayreuth Festival and Deutsche Grammophon was released in July 2018. In his staging, Barrie Kosky blended images from past and present and raised important questions about Wagner’s opera, his nationalist political stance, and his antisemitic views. Under the conductor Philippe Jordan, the international audience was presented with a multifaceted and gripping interpretation of Wagner for evaluation and enjoyment.
The OPUS KLASSIK is the new award for classical music in Germany. The promotion of classical music, and especially the recognition of its artists, is the goal of the Association for the Promotion of Classical Music (Verein zur Förderung der Klassischen Musik e. V.), the organizer of Germany’s most important classical music award. An expert jury, composed of representatives from the music and media industries, honors 46 laureates in 24 categories.
