To enable a restart of Bayreuth Festival in the spirit of its creator after the end of World War II, both ideologically and materially, Wagner enthusiasts, along with the brothers Wieland and Wolfgang Wagner, founded the Society of Friends of Bayreuth in 1949. Thanks to renovations of the Festspielhaus, new rehearsal stages and workshops, investments in stage technology, and annual contributions for its operations, the Richard Wagner Festival has been able to take place in Bayreuth since 1951.
In addition, over the years, a broad network of private supporters and sponsors has developed, which is of extraordinary importance for the staging of the festival and its accompanying program.
