The Bayreuth Festival celebrate their 150th anniversary

2026 is all about the anniversary: new perspectives, special works, bold formats. In addition to repertoire classics, you can expect extraordinary productions such as “Rienzi” or the experimental “Ring 10010110” – and a performance schedule that once again makes the Festspielhaus a place for present and history.

Rienzi – a One-Time Event in Bayreuth in 2026

Monumental, political, dramatic

Rienzi, Wagner’s third opera, was once his greatest success. The performance in Bayreuth is a unique opportunity to rediscover Wagner’s early triumph – where it has never been heard before.

RING 10010110 – from Myth to Code

The Ring Thinks Along

For the 150th anniversary of Bayreuth Festival, Wagner’s “Ring” is reprogrammed – literally. Artificial intelligence creates a constantly changing visual memory from 150 years of reception history on stage. A music theater experiment between memory, vision – and pixel-perfect provocation.

Der fliegende Holländer 2026

Tcherniakov’s production of “Der fliegende Holländer” is a radical, psychologically dense interpretation with clear visual symbolism, strong female characters and a modern thriller scenario.

Parsifal 2026

The world premiere of Richard Wagner’s “Parsifal” took place on July 26, 1882 in the Bayreuth Festspielhaus. “Parsifal” is unique in that Wagner conceived it as a “stage consecration festival”. The work deals with themes such as mystery, redemption and the search for the Holy Grail.

Symphony No. 9

Fascination and identification – the IX. Ludwig van Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony played a more special role in Richard Wagner’s life than any other musical work.
