Tanja Christine Kuhn

Tanja Christine Kuhn was born in Heidelberg and studied at the State University of Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart. While still a student, she made her debut at the Heidelberg Theatre during the Winter in Schwetzingen festival. She rounded off her training with masterclasses with Lynne Dawson, Raina Kabaivanska, Karan Armstrong, Scott Curry and Klaus Sallmann. She continues to perfect her technique through regular work with Malcolm Walker. 

 
She has performed roles such as Senta (Der fliegende Holländer) at internationally renowned venues such as the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb and the Teatro Petruzzelli di Bari. At the Cottbus State Theatre, she sang Hanna Glawari (The Merry Widow), Micaëla (Carmen) and made her debut as Desdemona (Otello). She also took on the prominent role of Princesse (Orphée by Philip Glass) at the Anhaltisches Theater Dessau. At the Danish National Opera in 2019, she appeared on stage as Micaëla (Carmen) and Katja (Scandinavian premiere of Weinberg's The Passenger) as well as Charmion (Cleopatra by August Enna). She also made her debut there in the demanding role of Heloise (Paul von Klenau's Michael Kohlhaas) and as Tatjana (Eugene Onegin). In the 2021/22 season, she was a member of the ensemble at Theater Münster, where she appeared on stage as Julia de Weert (Der Vetter aus Dingsda), among other roles. 
 
The soprano's busy schedule on both the opera and concert stages connects her with renowned Italian theatres. She performed the soprano solo in Gustav Mahler's Second Symphony and the title role in Paul Hindemith's Sancta Susanna at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari. At the Teatro Petruzzelli di Bari, she sang Francis Poulenc's Gloria, among other works. In December 2024, she made a guest appearance at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg with the concert programme Ein Wintermärchen (A Winter's Tale), together with Katharina Thalbach, Daniel Hope, the Belgrade Chamber Orchestra and others. 
 
Guest engagements have taken her to the Stadttheater Gießen, the Children's Opera of the Bayreuth Festival, the Staatstheater Braunschweig and the Staatsoper Hannover. She has worked with conductors such as Cornelius Meister, Rubén Dubrovsky, Giampaolo Bisanti, Marco Angius, Florian Ludwig and Markus L. Frank, as well as directors such as Hinrich Horstkotte, Philipp Kochheim, Jasmina Hadžiahmetović, Ben Baur, Eva-Maria Höckmayr, Dr Ulrich Peters and Malte Kreutzfeld. 
 
After making her house debut at Dortmund Opera as Gerhilde (Die Walküre) in the 2021/22 season, she joined the permanent ensemble for the 2022/23 season, appearing as Pamina (Die Zauberflöte) and in the title role in Gräfin Mariza. In 2023/24, she returned to Dortmund as a guest in the role of Wellgunde (Das Rheingold). As a returning ensemble member for the 2024/25 season, she portrayed Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni) and Wellgunde (Das Rheingold and Götterdämmerung), among others. In 2025/26, Tanja Christine Kuhn made a guest appearance as Infanta Isabella in the new production of Paul Abraham's Märchen im Grand-Hotel at the Dortmund Opera.
