The German soprano Dorothea Herbert is an acclaimed artist active on German and international concert and opera stages. After studying at the Richard-Strauss-Konservatorium München and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama London, she became a member of the Opernstudio der Welsh National Opera. In 2016, Dorothea was awarded a scholarship by the Richard-Wagner-Verband.

Dorothea is embarking on an exciting 2024/25 season, beginning with Strauss’ Vier letzten Lieder with the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker at the Festival international de musique Besançon and at the Staatstheater Meiningen. She will perform her celebrated role as Elsa in Wagner’s Lohengrin at the Theater Bremen and reprise her role as Senta in Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer at the Staatstheater Wiesbaden and Landestheater Linz. In the summer, she will debut as Dritte Norn in Götterdämmerung and once again sing Helmwige in Wagner’s Die Walküre at the Bayreuther Festspiele. Additionally, she will make her debut as Elisabeth in Tannhäuser at the Kinderoper, also at the Bayreuther Festspiele.

Highlights from recent seasons include her 2024 debut at the Bayreuther Festspiele as Helmwige (Die Walküre) under Simone Young. She appeared in Elektra in Baden-Baden with Kirill Petrenko and the Berliner Philharmoniker. Dorothea made her debut at the Theater an der Wien in Christof Loy’s new production of Zazà as Floriana and La Signora Dufresne, performed Fidelio at the Glyndebourne Festival, Elsa in Wagner’s Lohengrin at the Staatstheater Darmstadt, Donna Anna in Mozart’s Don Giovanni and Amelia in Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera (both at the Nationaltheater Mannheim), Agathe in Weber’s Der Freischütz at the Staatstheater Mainz, Staatstheater Kassel, Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, and Semperoper Dresden, Senta in Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer at the Staatsoper Prag, Salome at the Tiroler Landestheater Innsbruck and Staatstheater Braunschweig, and Die Walküre at the Dutch National Opera under Marc Albrecht.

In the upcoming 2025-26 season, Dorothea will make her debut at the Bayerische Staatsoper München in Die Walküre and at the Opéra de Toulon as Senta in Der fliegende Holländer.
