With “the utmost respect” for the management and team of Bayreuth Festival, the director and his team, the assistant conductors, the entire cast, the orchestra and choir, Andris Nelsons has asked the festival management and board of Bayreuth Festival for the termination of his contract for the new production Parsifal in 2016.

Unfortunately, the circumstances at this year’s Bayreuth Festival did not provide Andris Nelsons with the atmosphere he needs for his artistic work.

With regret, Bayreuth Festival agrees to his request for contract termination.

In his own statement, Andris Nelsons comments as follows:

“With utmost respect to the Bayreuth Festival’s management and staff, director and his team, assistant conductors, cast, orchestra and chorus, Andris Nelsons has asked the Festival’s management for rescission of his contract for this Summer’s production of Parsifal. Owing to a differing approach in various matters, the atmosphere at this year’s Bayreuth Festival did not develop in a mutually comfortable way for all parties. With regret, the Bayreuth Festival agree to Andris Nelsons’ request.”
