Today’s performance of “Tristan und Isolde” is the 2500th since the Festspielhaus opened with the “Ring des Nibelungen” in 1876.
“Tristan und Isolde” itself was first performed under the musical direction of Felix Mottl in 1886 as part of the 5th Bayreuth Festival. Today, on August 10, 2011, the 211th performance of the opera is taking place under the baton of Peter Schneider.
