Christian Thielemann Conducts the 100th Performance in Bayreuth

Die sogenannten Pausenmusiker zum ersten Mal auf den Balkon des Festspielhauses

With today’s performance of Die Walküre, Christian Thielemann celebrates a rare anniversary: he stands for the one hundredth time as conductor in the Bayreuth orchestra pit.

Even if he takes a break next summer after eleven years of Bayreuth presence, his collaboration with the Festival will become even more intense in the future, because Christian Thielemann will now also be available to the Festival as a musical advisor. Two new productions with Christian Thielemann are already planned: Der fliegende Holländer (2012) directed by Sebastian Nübling and Tristan und Isolde (2015) staged by Katharina Wagner. The current Ring des Nibelungen is on the program for the last time this summer with three complete cycles.
