Oksana Lyniv received this year’s special prize of the Bavarian Culture Prize yesterday. Culture Minister Markus Blume described Lyniv as a “world-class conductor, musical pioneer, and inspiring bridge-builder”. Oksana Lyniv was the first woman to conduct Bayreuth Festival. She has often performed in Bavaria – not only in Bayreuth, but also with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra and at the Bavarian State Opera. Blume also praised Lyniv’s work for Ukrainian culture, especially for the LvivMozArt Festival and the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine. Oksana Lyniv received her musical education in Lviv and Dresden. The Bavarian Culture Prize is awarded for outstanding achievements by artists, cultural professionals, and young scientists.
