Morgan Moody

The Californian bass-baritone Morgan Moody studied at Boston University with Richard Cassilly and at the New England Conservatory of Music. This was followed by engagements at Central City Opera, Opera Providence and Sarasota Opera. From 2004, he was a member of the Zurich Opera House Opera Studio, finally becoming a permanent member of the ensemble from 2006 to 2012. There he sang roles such as Bartolo (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Count Lamoral (Arabella) and Zuniga (Carmen). 

 
Since the 2011/12 season, he has been a member of the ensemble at Dortmund Opera, where he has performed roles in several Mozart operas, including Leporello (Don Giovanni), Don Alfonso (Così fan tutte), Papageno (Die Zauberflöte) and the title role in Le nozze di Figaro, which he reprised at the Salzburg State Theatre in 2019. He has also sung Howard Stern in the German premiere of Mark-Anthony Turnage's Anna Nicole, Fred Graham/Petrucchio (Kiss Me, Kate), Méphistophélès (Faust) and Ping (Turandot). 
 
Morgan Moody made his debut at the Salzburg Festival in 2012 in Bernd Alois Zimmermann's Die Soldaten, a production with which he also made his debut at La Scala in 2015. He returned to Salzburg in 2016 to appear in the world premiere of Thomas Adès' The Exterminating Angel, with which he made a guest appearance at the Royal Opera House in London in 2017. In the 2022/23 season, he appeared as Henry Kissinger (Nixon in China), Heerrufer (Lohengrin), Alberich (Siegfried) and Papageno (Die Zauberflöte and Das Geheimnis der Zauberflöte), among others. In 2022, he made a guest appearance at the Vlaamse Opera Antwerp as Clov (Fin de Partie). He also performed this role in London at the 2023 Proms and in the first German staged performance of the work at the Dortmund Opera. In addition, he appeared on the Dortmund opera stage in 2023/24 as Schaunard (La Bohème), Jupiter (Orpheus in the Underworld) and Donner (Das Rheingold), among others. 
 
In December 2023, after more than 10 years as a member of the ensemble in Dortmund, Morgan Moody was awarded the title of Kammersänger. In the 2024/25 season, Ks. Morgan Moody appeared in the title role of Sweeney Todd, as Frank (Die Fledermaus), as Leporello (Don Giovanni) and in the complete cycle of Der Ring des Nibelungen. 
 
In 2025/26, Ks. Morgan Moody played the title role in The Marriage of Figaro, the film agent Makintosh in Märchen im Grand-Hotel and the role of the Doctor in the world premiere of WIR (WE) in Dortmund.
