Michael König

Michael König Was born in Mutlangen/Ostalbkreis and studied mainly voice at Hochschule für Musik in Mannheim in addition to several master classes. He won prizes in the Meistersänger competition in Nürnberg and in the competition of the European Union Opera.

In 1993 he made his debut at the Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele. This was followed by engagements at Glyndebourne Festival Opera, at Oper Frankfurt, at the state thaetres in Basel and Stuttgart, at Staatsoper Hannover, Teatro Nacional de Sao Carlos in Lisbon, Opera Bastille in Paris, Volksoper Wien, in Oslo, Nürnberg, Hamburg, Zürich, Tokio, at Gran Teatro del Liceu Barcelona, Teatro Real in Madrid, in Toronto and Amsterdam. He has worked with conductors such as Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Valdimir Jurowsky, Michail Jurowsky, Lothar Zagrosek, Seji Ozawa, Paolo Carignani, Gustav Kuhn und Christof Prick.

His focus is on German and Slavic opera literature. His repertoire includes, among other roles, Bacchus in Ariadne auf Naxos, Florestan in Fidelio, Kaiser in Frau ohne Schatten, Max in Der Freischütz, the title role of Lohengrin and Fürst Andrej Chowanski in Chowanschtschina.

Future engagements until 2015 include a new production of Boris Godunov in Madrid, Lohengrin in Frankfurt and at Deutsche Oper Berlin, Der fliegende Holländer in München, at La Scala in Milan and ROH Covent Garden, Der Freischütz at Staatsoper Unter den Linden as well as a new production of Der Freischütz in Dresden, conducted by Christian Thielemann.
