Evelin Novak

Soprano Evelin Novak is a member of the ensemble at Berlin State Opera, where she has delighted audiences and critics alike in recent seasons with roles such as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, Agathe in Der Freischütz, the Countess d’Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro and Mimì in La Bohème. Her last-minute jump-in as Fiordiligi under the musical direction of Daniel Barenboim in his final production of Così fan tutte attracted particular attention.

At the Berlin State Opera, she has also appeared in roles such as Violetta Valéry (La traviata), Gretel (Hansel and Gretel), Jenny Hill (The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny), Drusilla (L’Incoronazione di Poppea), Eurydice (Orpheus in the Underworld), Pamina (The Magic Flute), Marzelline (Fidelio), Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), Mrs Fluth (The Merry Wives of Windsor) and Woglinde in Der Ring des Nibelungen.

Guest appearances have taken her to houses including the Vienna State Opera, the Semperoper Dresden, the Bavarian State Opera, the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the Hamburg State Opera and the Komische Oper Berlin. Other notable engagements have included the opera houses in Cologne, Graz, Lyon and Zagreb, as well as the Mörbisch Lake Festival and the Opera in the Quarry in St. Margarethen.

She recently achieved great success at the National Theatre in Zagreb as Elisabeth in Tannhäuser. She has already performed the role of Mimì in La Bohème there on several occasions and made her debut in the role of Rusalka. During the 2024/25 season, she sang the role of Jenůfa for the first time at the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon. In 2027, she will perform her signature role of Mimì at the Finnish National Opera.

At the Bayreuth Festival, Evelin Novak has appeared on several occasions as the 1st Flower Maiden in the new production of Parsifal under Pablo Heras-Casado, and as Woglinde in Der Ring des Nibelungen under Simone Young. In the 2026 festival season, she will make her debut there as Freia in the anniversary production of Der Ring des Nibelungen under Christian Thielemann.

She is also a sought-after soloist on the concert stage. In addition to numerous recitals, concert tours have taken her to China, amongst other places. She has performed in gala concerts with Željko Lučić and José Cura, as well as with the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne under the baton of Simone Young.

She regularly collaborates with conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Christian Thielemann, Zubin Mehta, Simon Rattle, Philippe Jordan and Ivan Repušić. She also recorded La rondine with the Munich Radio Orchestra under Ivan Repušić, released on the CPO label. The release of her first solo CD is imminent.

Her other recordings include the DVDs of Der Zigeunerbaron from Mörbisch, Carmen from St. Margarethen, and Jenůfa, Das Rheingold and Götterdämmerung from the Berlin State Opera. In addition, the CD and DVD recordings of Parsifal from Bayreuth were released by Deutsche Grammophon.

Alongside her international concert and opera engagements, Evelin Novak regularly gives masterclasses and works as a lecturer in singing at the Berlin University of the Arts.
