Christof Hetzer

Christof Hetzer was born in Salzburg and studied stage and costume design in Erich Wonder’s master class at Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Vienna. Since 2001 he has been a freelance stage and costume designer, among others for Schaubühne Berlin, Theater Basel, Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Oper Frankfurt, Nationaltheater Mannheim and Vlaamse Oper Antwerp.

He has collaborated with directors such as Hans Neuenfels, Christian Stückl, Constanze Macras and Pierre Audi. With David Hermann, he is associated in a very close artistic partnership. They jointly realized projects such as Sing für mich, Tod at Ruhr-Triennale 2009 as well as L’heure Espagnol / la vida breve and Charpentiers Medee at Oper Frankfurt.

Recent projects are Les Troyens with David Hermann for State Theatre Karlsruhe, Il Turco in Italia with David Hermann in Amsterdam, Händel‘s Orlando with Pierre Audi and René Jacobs for La Monnaie, Brussels and Parsifal, jointly with Anish Kapoor, for Amsterdam opera (director Pierre Audi).

He also designed stage and costumes for The Magic Flute by Mozart at Vlaamse Opera Antwerpen in 2012 and  the opening premiere of season 2012/13 at Deutsche Oper Berlin, Das Mädchen mit den Schwefelhölzern by Helmut Lachenmann, both directed by David Hermann.
