Andreas Bauer Kanabas
Andreas Bauer Kanabas sings important roles in the serious bass repertoire in eight different languages. Verdi and Wagner roles occupy a large part of his repertoire, as do Russian roles. The wide range, soft timbre and legato culture of his voluminous voice make him a bass singer with great versatility.
His repertoire includes Filippo II (in Italian and French), Zaccaria, Fiesco, De Silva, Banco and Padre Guardiano, as well as Gurnemanz, King Marke, King Henry, Landgrave Hermann, Pogner and Daland.
He also sings the title role in Duke Bluebeard's Castle, Vodnik/Rusalka, Gremin/Eugene Onegin, Ibn Hakia and King René/Iolanta, Boris/Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, Pimen/Boris Godunov, Claggart/Billy Budd, Mephisto in Gounod's Faust, Escamillo/Carmen, as well as Sarastro, Osmin, Komtur and Baron Ochs/Der Rosenkavalier.
Andreas Bauer Kanabas sings on international stages such as the Vienna State Opera, Royal Opera in Covent Garden London, Opéra Bastille de Paris, Bolshoi in Moscow, Teatro Real Madrid, Seattle Opera, New National Theatre in Tokyo, Teatro Municipal Santiago de Chile, Opéra de Lyon, Opéra du Capitole Toulouse, Riga National Opera, Semperoper Dresden, Hamburg State Opera and all three Berlin opera houses.
He has been a member of the Frankfurt Opera ensemble since 2013.
In the 2024/25 season, he sang Daland at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam and made his debut at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in a new production as Boris in Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, as well as at his home theatre in Frankfurt as Gurnemanz. He made a very successful appearance as King Heinrich under the baton of Christian Thielemann at the Bayreuth Festival in 2025 and will sing the role again at the end of the season in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
Highlights of the 2025/26 season included Pimen (Boris Godunov), Banquo (Macbeth) and King Marke (Tristan und Isolde) in Frankfurt, Ochs (Der Rosenkavalier) at the Garsington Opera and concert appearances at the Enescu Festival, NDR Hamburg, Müpa Budapest and Komische Oper Berlin, as well as Stefano Colonna (Rienzi) for the Bayreuth Festival.
