Die sogenannten Pausenmusiker zum ersten Mal auf den Balkon des Festspielhauses

On July 25, 2018, the premiere of the new production “Lohengrin” from the Bayreuth Festival will be broadcast in over 130 cinemas starting at 6 PM.

For the seventh time, a production of Bayreuth Festival will be broadcast in selected cinemas. In 2018, it is the new production “Lohengrin”, “Romantic Opera in 3 Acts” by Richard Wagner, whose premiere on July 25 opens this year’s festival. The musical direction is in the hands of Christian Thielemann, the staging is by Yuval Sharon, and the set and costumes are designed by Neo Rauch & Rosa Loy.

More than 130 cinemas in German-speaking countries will broadcast the performance, and for the first time, Lisbon will also participate. To give more cinema-goers the opportunity to watch the broadcast, it will take place slightly time-delayed from the original performance and begin at 6 PM – in HD quality and Dolby Surround.

In addition to the opera broadcast, the Bayreuth Festival once again offers an exclusive and unique pre- and intermission program, moderated by the well-known music journalist and publicist Axel Brüggemann. Conversations with soloists and other participants in the performance bring the creation process of the production to life, and background information provides exciting insights into the Bayreuth Festival, allowing cinema-goers to immerse themselves in the incomparable atmosphere on the “Green Hill”.

Until July 25, 2018, at 8 PM, everyone can participate in the competition on the website www.wagner-im-kino.de. In addition to two premiere tickets for the Bayreuth Festival 2019 (new production “Tannhäuser”), further festival tickets and a surprise package will be raffled off. The winners will be drawn live during the second intermission of the cinema broadcast.
