Mourning for Manfred Jung

Die sogenannten Pausenmusiker zum ersten Mal auf den Balkon des Festspielhauses

Bayreuth Festival mourns Manfred Jung, who passed away on April 14 at the age of 76.
After having already sung in the choir of Bayreuth Festival from 1970 to 1973, he was engaged as a soloist at the Festival from 1977. Above all, his celebrated portrayal of the Siegfried role in Patrice Chéreau’s “Ring” production remains memorable. For the CD recording of this production, he received a “Grammy Award” in 1982.
In addition to Siegfried, he also sang Parsifal, Loge, and Mime at the Festival in a total of 16 seasons and 89 performances. He last performed in Bayreuth in 1998.
Our deepest condolences and sincere sympathy go out to his family.
