Bayreuth Festival mourns Gerd Grochowski. Quite unexpectedly, the bass-baritone died on January 16, 2017, in Mainz, after he had sung the role of Wotan just the day before at the Staatstheater Wiesbaden in the premiere of “Die Walküre”. At the Bayreuth Festival, Gerd Grochowski made a successful debut in 2016 in the new production of “Parsifal” as Klingsor, a role he was also scheduled to reprise in 2017. The news of his sudden passing deeply saddens us; with him, the Festival loses an equally highly professional and amiable member of its ensemble. Our deepest condolences and sincere sympathy go out to his family.
In Memory of Gerd Grochowski
