Bayreuth Festival also Show New Production in 2009
For the 2009 season, Bayreuth Festival will present a version of a Richard Wagner work specially adapted for children for the first time. This year, “The Flying Holländer” will be performed as part of the “Richard Wagner for Children” project. The premiere will take place on the opening day of Bayreuth Festival on Saturday, July 25, 2009, at 12:30 PM, in rehearsal stage IV, which has been converted into a children’s opera house. The production for children aged 6 to 10 is a collaboration with the Music Theater Directing program at the Hanns Eisler School of Music and a joint project with the Fair Play Foundation, made possible by the generous commitment of the car manufacturer Audi, Rudolph Wöhrl AG, and the Herbert Hillmann and Margot Müller Foundation.
Christoph Ulrich Meier, who also arranged the music for 19 musicians, will conduct the children’s opera in a version by Alexander Busche.
Alvaro Schoeck is responsible for the staging, and Merle Vierck for the set design. A total of ten performances are scheduled between July 25, 2009, and August 2, 2009, with morning performances primarily reserved for school classes. We are now accepting registrations from school classes for these school performances, as well as for all other performances, at wagnerfuerkinder@bfmedien.com.
Admission for children is free. Adults pay 20 Euros per ticket. The accompanying person for each child, as well as for groups of up to 15 children, also receives free admission to the performance; for groups of 15 children or more, two accompanying persons are provided.
