In the performance of Lohengrin on August 27, 2010, Simon O’Neill sang the title role in place of the indisposed Jonas Kaufmann.
The New Zealand-born tenor is thus making his debut at the Bayreuth Festival. In addition to Lohengrin, his Wagner repertoire also includes the roles of Siegfried and Parsifal. In the coming season, he will sing Siegmund under the musical direction of Daniel Barenboim at both the Teatro alla Scala Milano and the Staatsoper Berlin.
