Bayreuth Festival was deeply saddened to learn of the death of violist Laurent Verney. Verney was the principal violist of the Paris Opera for more than 35 years and was closely associated with Wagner’s music for many years as principal violist of the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra. Through this tragic accident, we have lost not only a wonderful musician but also a friend.
