Bayreuth is easily accessible by car and is located directly on the A9 Munich-Nuremberg-Bayreuth-Berlin highway. Coming from the north, leave the highway at the Bayreuth-Nord exit and then follow the signs towards the city center or the Festspielhaus. Coming from the south, use the Bayreuth-Süd exit and follow the signs directly to the Festspielhaus.
Arrival / Parking situation
Arrival by car

The Festspielauffahrt via Siegfried-Wagner-Allee and the street “Festspielhügel” will be completely closed to traffic two hours before the start of the performance until about one hour after the end of the performance. Access to the parking lots is exclusively via Tristanstraße or Tannhäuserstraße (coming from Grüner Baum) and An der Bürgerreuth street. Visitors arriving via the A 9 – Bayreuth-Nord exit are advised to take the Riedinger Straße exit at Grüner Baum and follow the signs to the Festspielhaus.
As experience has shown that there is a high volume of traffic around the Festspielhügel, it is recommended to arrive well before the start of the performance and to have the parking fee ready, if possible, when arriving. The parking fees of €10.00 per day for the visitor parking lots “B” and “C” are collected directly at the entrance to the parking lots by the parking attendants employed by the city of Bayreuth.
There are three mobile AC charging stations with a total of six charging points for electric vehicles in parking lot “B”. Access is possible via the following alternatives:
- Ad-hoc charging via QR code (credit cards/Apple Pay)
- Roaming charging card as in the Bayreuth city area
- App of the roaming providers as in the Bayreuth city area
Arrival by Taxi or Rental Car
Arrival and departure by taxi via the driveway to the Festspielhaus is possible again. On July 25, 2025, the entire driveway to the hill will be closed to all vehicles.
Arrival by taxi or the BRK mobility service via Siegfried-Wagner-Allee is possible from July 26, 2025 on all event days until 4 p.m. From July 26, 2025, a taxi rank will be set up on Wolfgang-Wagner-Platz in front of the Festspielhaus. Only taxis and rental cars with special permits (§46 StVO) and the BRK mobility services will be granted entry. These vehicles can only access the site via Siegfried-Wagner-Allee.
Especially on the premiere day, July 25, 2025, and, if necessary, on individual further days, extensive stopping restrictions apply in Gravenreutherstraße, Tristanstraße, Tannhäuserstraße and An der Bürgerreuth. In some cases, these stopping restrictions apply from July 16, 2025 for the entire festival period. These must be observed; vehicles parked without authorization will be towed away by the police.
Parking Spaces for Severely Disabled People
For severely disabled people with an official disabled parking permit, separate, free parking spaces are designated in parking lot “A” or on July 25, 2025 in parking lot “B”. If further assistance is required, the Bavarian Red Cross can be contacted on 0176/25591251.
