The programme of the Bayreuth Festival for the upcoming season has been published today.
Next year’s focus will be a new production of Richard Wagner’s „Der Ring des Nibelungen“. The musical direction will be in the hands of conductor Pietari Inkinen. Director is Valentin Schwarz, the stage is designed by Andrea Cozzi, while Andy Besuch is responsible for the costumes. In addition to three complete „Ring“ cycles, the programme of the 109th Festival includes the revivals of the productions „Tannhäuser“, „Lohengrin“ and „Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg“. Axel Kober will take over the musical direction of „Tannhäuser“ and will also conduct two „Lohengrin“ performances. On the occasion of Ludwig van Beethoven’s 250th birthday, a performance of the 9th Symphony under the musical direction of Marek Janowski concludes the 2020 series.
