Cheryl Studer

Katja Stuber began vocal lessons with Christian Gerhaher at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich while still studying music and German literature. Four years later, in 2008, she completed her degree with honors. The soprano attended oratorio and song classes held by Christoph Hammer, Juliane Banse and Helmut Deutsch. Beginning in September 2008, she joined a master class with Ruth Ziesak in Saarbrücken also completing her degree in 2011 with honors.

Katja Stuber has appeared as a soloist with such orchestras as the Münchener Symphoniker, the Bach-Collegium München, the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker, Concerto Köln, WDR Sinfonieorchester and the Balthasar-Neumann-Ensemble. She has sung under the direction of renowned conductors like Gabriel Feltz, Thomas Hengelbrock, Helmut Rilling and Lothar Zagrosek.

In addition to productions with the Bayerische Theaterakademie August Everding, in which Katja Stuber worked with the Hofkapelle München and the Münchner Kammerorchester, the soprano gained extensive operatic experience with the Kammeroper München under the direction of Dominik Wilgenbus.

As of the 2009/2010 season, Katja Stuber has been a full-time ensemble member of Munich's Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz.

In 2011 the soprano is making her Bayreuth Festival début in the new production of Wagners Tannhäuser, singing A young Sheperd.

Katja Stuber attended master classes with András Schiff (Lied), Gerd Türk and Barbara Schlick. She has been supported by the Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now foundation since 2007, was awarded a Deutsche Bühnenverein (German Stage Association) scholarship in summer 2008 and a Deutsche Musikrat scholarship for the Bundesauswahl Junger Künstler in 2010.
