Florian Hoffmann

The young, Berlin-born tenor received voice and piano tuition as part of a preliminary course at the Peter Cornelius Conservatory in Mainz, and was awarded a sponsorship by the Ministry of Culture of Rheinland-Pfalz in 1995. Then, until 2005, he studied voice at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin, initially under Prof. Renate Faltin and from 2003 under Kammersänger Reiner Goldberg, who worked at Bayreuth for many years. Among the roles he sang while studying there was the title role in Britten's opera Albert Herring.

Appearances at the first RuhrTriennale in Essen in 2002 and in Liechtenstein were followed, from the 2005/2006 season, by an engagement at the Berlin State Opera (Unter den Linden) where he had already made his debut in a co-production in 2003. Among the roles he has sung there are the Steersman in Der fliegende Holländer and the Shepherd in Tristan und Isolde, conducted by Daniel Barenboim. In 2008, he gave his first performance in the role of David in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg in a Berlin State Opera production conducted by Daniel Barenboim. He is also active in the field of concert and oratorio, collaborating closely with the Konzerthaus Berlin where he can be heard regularly, for example in Papageno spielt auf der Zauberflöte.
