Christa Mayer studied at the Bavarian Academy of Singing and at the Munich Academy of Music, gaining her masterclass diploma in 2001. Even while she was still a student, the young mezzo-soprano was already winning prizes and awards, including the International ARD Competition in Munich. Since 2001 Christa Mayer has been a member of the Dresden State Opera, performing a repertory that includes Erda in the Ring, Fenena in Nabucco, Suzuki in Madama Butterfly, Adelaide in Arabella and Mistress Quickly in Falstaff. Guest appearances have taken her to the Deutsche Oper in Berlin and to various festivals such as the Rheingau, Schleswig-Holstein and Bad Kissingen Music Festivals and the Schubertiade at Schwarzenberg. In 2004 she performed Mahler's Kindertotenlieder at the Septembre Musical in Montreux. At the Bavarian State Opera she has been heard as Schwertleite in Die Walküre. In 2007 she was invited by Zubin Mehta to sing Erda and Schwertleite in the Ring in the newly built Palau de les Arts in Valencia.
