Thomas Jesatko

The German bass-baritone Thomas Jesatko studied singing both in his native Nuremberg and in Munich as well as in masterclasses with Kurt Widmer. He has won several awards in the course of his career. His first permanent engagement was as a lyric baritone with the State Theatre in Darmstadt in 1986. Five years later he switched to bass-baritone roles in Osnabrück, where he remained until 1997, when he joined the Mannheim National Theatre. Much in demand in opera houses throughout Europe, Thomas Jesatko has appeared at many prestigious festivals, including he Wiesbaden May Festival, the Schwetzingen Festival, the Chiemgau Festival, the Festival des Cathédrales and the International Organ Festival in Nuremberg. He has also enjoyed a distinguished career as a concert and oratorio singer and as a song recitalist in a repertory extending from the Baroque to the present day and has taken part in many television and radio broadcasts as well as CD recordings. He sang the Wanderer under Adam Fischer in 2005, adding Wotan in Das Rheingold in Breslau and the Rheingold and Walküre Wotans in Mannheim in 2006, in each case to great acclaim. He was heard as Fasolt at the 2007 Budapest Wagner Festival.
