After completing her violin studies, Petra Lang studied singing with Gertie Charlent and Ingrid Bjoner and was involved in master classes with Brigitte Fassbaender, Hans Hotter, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Peter Schreier. Starting off as a lyric mezzo, she turned to Wagner early in her career also studying her roles with Astrid Varnay.

At the Bayreuth Festival Petra Lang has sung Brangäne in Tristan und Isolde (2005/2006), and appeared as Ortrud in Lohengrin by Hans Neuenfels in 2011, 2013 and 2014. In addition to her successes on the opera stage, she is a versatile concert singer and known for her sensitive interpretation of the works of Gustav Mahler.
