Linda Watson

Linda Watson was born in San Francisco. On completing her studies at the New England Conservatory in Boston, she received the first of many scholarships, including a Fulbright Scholarship that enabled her to complete her studies at the Vienna Conservatory. Her Bayreuth Festival début as Kundry under Giuseppe Sinopoli in 1998 led to a whole series of invitations to appear in other international houses. As Kundry she has appeared with the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, the Teatro Real in Madrid and the Gran Teatre del Liceu, while her Isolde has been heard both at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich and during the company's visit to Japan. Other roles in her repertory include Leonore in Fidelio, the title role in Ariadne auf Naxos, the Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier, Ortrud in Lohengrin, Brünnhilde in the Ring, Elisabeth in Tannhäuser, Sieglinde in Die Walküre and the Dyer's Wife in Die Frau ohne Schatten. She made her Vienna State Opera début in 1989 in Beat Furrer's Die Blinden, later returning to the house as Elisabeth in Tannhäuser and as Brünnhilde in the Ring.

Following her Bayreuth début in 1998, Linda Watson returned in 2000 as Ortrud in Lohengrin. She first sang Brünnhilde in Tankred Dorst's production of the Ring in 2006 and returned in 2007 and 2008. She will perform this part also in 2009.
