
Frank Philipp Schlößmann was born in Bad König in the Odenwald. Between 1985 and 1989 he studied stage and costume design at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and has been a freelance designer since 1991. Among the directors with whom he has worked are Andreas Homoki, Olivier Tambosi, Harry Kupfer and Philipp Himmelmann. His designs have been seen at the Royal Opera, Covent Garden, the Vienna Volksoper, the Munich State Opera, the Metropolitan Opera, New York, and all three opera houses in Berlin as well as in Dublin, Amsterdam, Antwerp, Hamburg, Cologne, Leipzig, Dresden, Bologna, Catania, Basel, Chicago, Houston, Barcelona and Tokyo. Plans include Manon Lescaut in San Francisco, L'italiana in Algeri in Hanover, La fanciulla del West in Tokyo, Lucia di Lammermoor in Amsterdam and Tannhäuser in Cologne.
For the Bayreuth Festival he has designed the sets for Tankred Dorst's production of the Ring.
